Whether you're planning ahead for late nutritious meals or want to get some quick growing crops to enjoy now, our September growing guide will help you plan your September sowing.
5 Key crops

Corn salad
Rich in vitamin A for healthy skin, eyes and all round immune function. All year round harvest so pick as needed;
TIP: Pick leaves from various plants each time, so they keep growing. Will crop all winter if protected from frost.
Sow: 1cm deep / Spacing: 10cm / Row spacing: 15cm


Gooseberries
Containing vitamin C and potassium, gooseberries are a great source of anti-inflammatory phyto-nutrient - that helps with alleviated seasonal allergies.
TIP: Mulch the soil to hold in moisture and give plants a boost by applying a general fed in late winter.
Plant: at equal depth as grown in nursery / Spacing: 1.2m apart / Row spacing: 1.2m


Grapes
Packed with compounds that benefit the heart and skin, and reduce cancer risk. Perfect for smoothies, or a healthy hard sweet, if frozen once picked
TIP: Remove all the flowers for the first two years to allow the vine to grow significantly.
Plant: at equal depth as grown in nursery / Spacing: 1.2m apart / Row spacing: 1.5m


Onions
The basic ingredient to many scrumptious meals, the onion contains compounds to aid blood flow, and promote a healthy digestive system. Enjoy raw or cooked.
TIP: Remove any flower stems that form and plant sets in a well-drained soil.

Pears
Rich in a soluble fibre that is gentle on the gut and helps manage cholesterol. Eat with skin to maximise health benefits.
TIP: Grow in a sunny, sheltered location Water during dry spells and when the fruit is starting to swell.
